STEP 5: CFPC

The CFPC recognizes credentials from Australia through the Recognition of Training and Certification outside Canada (certification without examination) pathway.

To apply for the CFPC, you need to become a member. This in itself from memory was not difficult, you just had to fill in some personal details and upload evidence of your medical degree. You will have to pay an $500 membership fee as part of this, however, there's no point applying for this until all your documents from physiciansapply are done as you will need them for the CFPC as well.

The CFPC requires source verification of the following documents:

1.     Medical degree

2.     Postgraduate family medicine training diploma/certificate or letter confirming completion (this is the letter that gave me a headache in step 3)

3.     Certification in family medicine (FRACGP)

4.     Certificate or Letter of Good Standing/Professional Status, not older than six months, from the licensing body (AHPRA)

5.     Letter of Good Standing, not older than six months, from the certifying body (RACGP)

None of this should cost you any extra money as you have already source verified this stuff. You will ask them for an eligibility letter to support your application for licensure in Ontario. From memory, you don't have to contact anyone, it's just part of the application. You will need this for your CPSO application.

I note that I also paid 93.17 for something as part of the CFPC membership but I can't recall what that was for. I'll fill in the details once I recall.

Total cost of this step: $593.17 CAD
